Many people believe very different things about tobacco. Some people may tell you that cigarrettes are a problem that only adults have to deal with. Some people may tell you that smoking can help with weight loss, thereby making it somewhat health. There are those who even believe that smoking isn’t a drug problem, since it’s legal for adults. Those are all myths however; the fact is, tobacco in any ingestient form is unhealthy and a problem for anyone of any age.
To those who believe that cigarrettes are only for adults, that is totally false. Actually, the average smoker begins developing their bad habits at the age of 13. Furthermore, the median age of smokeless/spit tobacco users is 17 years of age. Most new users don’t wait until it’s legal for them to partake.
Some uniformed smokers may think that they are helping their diet by smoking. This is not true, however. The idea that smoking helps users lose weight is actually propaganda made up by smoking advertisement agencies in the mid 1900’s. These days, smoking ad. agencies aren’t allowed to tell those lies, allowing the real truth to come out: only a 1/3 of people who smoking find that they are losing weight. If someone really wanted to lose weight and live a healthy life, they should put down the cigarette and clock in some miles.
Finally, there’s the myth that smoking isn’t a drug problem. This couldn’t be more incorrect. Biology defines a “drug” as anything that changes the state of the mind. The state of the mind is constantly changing, though. Therefore, everything is a drug. In terms of habit forming, dangerous drugs that put the user at risk, tobacco products are filled with them. There’s a chemical found in tobacco products called nicotine, which is habit forming so the user developes a physiological need for the product. There’s actually upwards of 40 chemicals found in cigarettes, in combination, these are carinogenic.
In conclusion, many people are confused when it comes to tobacco products. There’s many myths out there that will convince users that tobacco is ok. The fact is, tobacco products are healthy in any ingestient form.
